EVENT PROGRAMMING
February 2021 will see the first installment in a series of community
interactive music events programmed by Total Luxury Spa. We believe,
especially during this time of uncertainty, that the nurturing and healing
powers of music and its inherent spaces must be preserved and protected.
With fundraising as its mission and in recognition of Black History Month, the inaugural Total Luxury Spa Session will focus on one of South LA’s core musical resources, The World Stage in Leimert Park Village. Founded in 1989 by renowned Jazz drummer Billy Higgins and poet/community arts activist Kamau Daáood, in an attempt to fill a cultural void in the L.A. community, The World Stage has grown to assume a pioneering and pivotal role in the area’s music and art landscape. Their mission is to secure, preserve, and advance the position of African-American music, literature, and works in the oral tradition to a local, national, and international audience.
Sun Ra Arkestra will be teleported through our platform with a 90-minute video performance. Following, Chace Infinite will host a conversation between members of Sun Ra, Aman Kufahamu, and Kamau Daáood. Total Luxury Spa will produce special edition clothing and posters to commemorate the event, and proceeds from merchandise and ticket sales will go to The World Stage and Sun Ra.
